From TV Guide
Today's episode marks the beginning of the climactic end for the Sheridan-Luis-Beth triangle on Passions. The NBC sudser went on location to Lake Piru in California's Los Padres National Forest to shoot a thrilling speedboat chase.
Sheridan (McKenzie Westmore) is blasted in a boat explosion during her hot pursuit of Beth, allowing her evil half sister to escape with baby Marty. The long-suffering heiress survives, but her romance with Luis doesn't. Luis leaves Harmony to hunt for Beth, a handy excuse for Galen Gering to disappear from the show for six months. Gering had to be preemptively written out back when it was unclear whether he'd opt to renew his contract. He has since renewed, so Luis will be back, though Kelli McCarty's future as Beth is another story.
"Beth and the baby are leaving the country on Alistair Crane's private jet," McCarty tells TVGuide.com, "so I don't know if we're ever going to see her again. Beth's drinking Dom Perignon in my very last scene, actually, so at least she's going in style! Plus our speedboat scenes on Lake Piru were impressive. The boat explosion looked fantastic, and it was fun having helicopters film us from overhead during the chase. We felt like we were making a feature film."
What's McCarty's status with Passions? "I was originally recurring, then they put me on contract, then they took me off contract. Now I've been told I'm free to start looking for other work, so I assume I'm neither. Of course, Beth's not dead and she does have the baby, so there are two things in my favor."
