Actor Brad Maule joins the cast of "Passions" in the recurring role of "Dr. Abel," a Los Angeles-based obstetrician, specializing in high risk pregnancy, who treats socialite Gwen Hotchkiss Winthrop. His first airdate is Friday, August 1.
Maule was nominated for two Emmy Awards for Actor in a Leading Role and won a Soap Opera Digest Award in the same category for his long running performance as Tony Jones on "General Hospital."
Raised in rural West Texas, Brad was educated at one of the last remaining country school houses (which had an enrollment of 150 students in 12 grades) and then attended Stephen F. Austin College where he graduated cum laude with a B.F.A. in Theater and English. Upon graduating he moved to Los Angeles and found himself cast in Billy Barnes' musical revue, "Movie Star" at the Westwood Playhouse. He went on to portray Hamelt in "Somethin's Rockin' in Denmark" and in 1983 he won the DramaLogue Award for his performance in the two-character musical Stephen Sondheim's "Marry Me a Little." Maule's other television credits include guest star roles in "Three's Company," "The White Shadow," "Too Close for Comfort," "Romance Theater" and "Charlie's Angels" and "Malibu." He has guested as talk show host on "A.M. Los Angeles," "Home," and "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee."
Brad has always had a love for music and has written and performed for years. He first joined the Serendipity Singers and toured the country with them. Landing in Hawaii, he spent a year singing back-up in Hawaiian for the popular performer Don Ho. Eventually, Brad sang back up for Bobby Gentry and Jim Nabors. Brad has headlined at the famed Palomino Club in Los Angeles and sang the Oscar® nominated "Arthur's Theme" on "The Amerian Music Awards."
Throughout his career, Brad has found time to contribute to his community. He co-hosted the annual West Texas Rehabilitation Telethon in Abilene, Texas, which helps raise more than a million dollars each year for the victims of stroke, heart disease and other medical problems requiring physical therapy. Brad's own brother was a patient at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Brad has also endowed scholarships for students of theater at both Stephen F. Austin University and his high school in Snyder, Texas. Born in Rotan, Texas on October 11, Brad's other interests include composing and writing music and painting abstracts in acrylics and charcoal.
