New Episodes for PASSIONate Fans on Superchannel
Edmonton, AB Sept. 6, 2007- NBC Universal Media Studios and Superchannel are pleased to announce the acclaimed daytime drama Passions has found a new home on Superchannel, Canada's new national pay television network set to launch this fall.
Passions fans were in danger of no longer receiving their favourite cutting-edge daytime drama because of a shift to pay TV in the US. Superchannel responded quickly to the grassroots demand by securing the deal with NBC.
Following a recent agreement with DIRECTV, the United States' leading satellite television company, NBC Universal Media Studios will produce brand-new episodes to air on Superchannel in Canada. The popular program enjoys an intensely dedicated fan base that will now not have to miss a single episode. "Superchannel is committed to giving Canadians the best TV there is. When we saw the Canadian fan outcry at the possibility of losing Passions, we acted fast. Just like Passions breaks the mould for daytime drama, Superchannel is breaking the mould for premium TV," said Sandy Perkins, Superchannel, Vice-president Programming.
"It is wonderful news that Superchannel has licensed Passions to serve the loyal fan base that this series created here in Canada," says Ron Suter, Senior Vice President & General Manager, NBC Universal Canada. "This is a perfect match that hopefully will continue for many years to come." Passions follows the various romantic and supernatural adventures of the residents of Harmony, Maine. The series debuted on NBC in 1999 and has routinely been amongst the top daytime programs in critical demographics. It is currently tied for #1 among all daytime dramas in both women ages 18-24 and females 12-24.
