Title: Goodbye Harmony

Summery: Theresa says goodbye to Harmony.
Note: Pretend that Julian never showed up. Theresa was wrongfully convicted for his murder. She spent two years in jail until the murderer was found. During that time everyone but Sheridan turned their backs on her. There is no Antonio, there is no Beth or Fox. I have tried to keep things simple on the Passions side, but you will probably see some differences.

“So, this is really happening? You’re leaving?” Sheridan asked her sister in law. Theresa Lopez Fitzgerald neatly folded her shirt into her suitcase before turning to the older blonde.
Seeing the heart wrenching look on her face Theresa swallowed convulsively. How had she and Sheridan become such good friends? The only time the two had even really spoken was when Theresa was engaged to Ethan Crane, now Winthrop. Maybe it was when all of Theresa’s friends and family turned their backs on her, maybe it was because Sheridan had such a big heart. All Theresa knew was that she loved the friendship she shared with the older woman. When she was in jail she looked forward every week, for that few precious hours whenever Sheridan would visit her.
“Why should I stay? Growing up, I always felt like one of the richest people in the world. We might not have had money to burn, but I always had my family. Even after papa left we were still a tight knit family. I always had Whitney, the Bennetts and Russells were like second families. At a time when I needed them most they all turned their backs on me. I don’t know what hurt most, the fact that I was wrongfully accused of killing my hus...Julian or the fact that everyone I ever counted on turned me away.”
Sheridan looked down guiltily, ashamed of her family name. “I am sorry that knowing us has ruined you.”
Knowing exactly what Sheridan was referring to her she grabbed her friend’s hand. “Don’t be. The one dream I had was to be with Ethan, and that was the most magical time of my life. I lost him because I betrayed him. No matter what happened though, he will always have a special place in my heart.”
Hearing Theresa talk so warmly about her once nephew Sheridan’s heart warmed. Being only a few years older than Ethan the two had basically grown up together. She had seen was he was like with Gwen Hotchkiss, now Winthrop and what he had been with Theresa. As much as she always liked Gwen, Theresa made Ethan happier, and she had hoped that things would work out between them.
“I wish things were different.”
“I do too, but so much damage has already been done. I burnt whatever loose ends there were tying me to my friends and family a long time ago.”

Two hours later Theresa and Sheridan sat in the air port with Ethan Martin sitting on his aunt’s lap playing. The two were sitting in a comfortable silence. As much as it pained Theresa to leave her childhood home, she needed to get away. “I’m a good person d**n it!” Sheridan looked over at her friend, surprised at Theresa’s outburst.
“You are.”
“Not here, not anymore. I’ve been tainted.”
“So, what are you going to do when you get to Salem?”
Shrugging her shoulders, Theresa stared in front of her. “I don’t know. I have a few connections that I made when I was working for Crane Industries. I’ve spoken to Victor Kariakas and he has graciously invited me to stay with he and his wife Nicole.” She looked down at her watch. “I should get going.” Both women stood up and hugged one another.
“Take care Theresa.”
Theresa pulled away and grasped Sheridan’s hands in her own. “You know I will. Take care of Luis, mama and Miguel for me.” She was really going to miss her family. She had spent two years without them, but not by her choice. How come she felt as though she were chickening out? No! She forced herself to think about it in a different light. Even if she was leaving, her family left long before her.
“I think Kay will take care of Miguel, no need to worry there.”
Theresa smiled, knowing how supportive Kay was of her younger brother. “Make sure everyone is safe and keep me posted. I’ll call you when I get there and settled.” She hugged Sheridan again. “I’ll miss you. Thank you for being my one true friend, my sister. You’ll never know how many times you saved me.” Theresa pulled away and wiped away her tears. “I love you.”
“I love you too. I love you too Ethan Martin, Sheridan said as she kissed his head.”
Theresa began walking to gate but stopped when she heard her name being called. She turned around to find Ethan running to catch her. Ethan, while they hadn’t spoken much since she had been out of jail, he had never turned his back on her.
“What are you doing here?”
“Etan!” Ethan Martin exclaimed as he looked at the older man.
“Hey big guy!” He took Ethan from Theresa’s arms. “I spoke to Luis and he said you were leaving. I dropped everything in hopes of reaching you before you left.”
“Why?”
“What do you mean why? Despite everything I still love you and I needed to tell you.”
Smiling at him, Theresa leaned up and kissed his lips, hers lingering longer than they should have. “I love you too. I never stopped, despite everything that happened. I never meant to betray you Ethan. I only wanted to protect you and love you.”
“I know.”
“I...this is so hard.” Theresa swallowed the lump in her throat. “I do wish you the best in everything that you do.”
“You make it sound like you’re never coming back.”
Would she ever go back to Harmony? Maybe, but not anytime soon. Theresa reached up and laid her hand against his cheek. She gently smiled when she saw Ethan close his eyes and lean further into it. “Take care of Gwen Ethan. She really does love you and you make sure that you protect that little baby.” How had she had the ability to say this? When she found out that Gwen was pregnant she was furious. She always wanted to marry Ethan and have a family with him. Why was it that things always worked out for Gwen?
It wasn’t fair. Life had been so unfair to them, Ethan thought bitterly. Theresa had given him a wake up call when she barged into his life. She showed him a side of life that he never knew existed and he loved her so much more than he would ever be able to say. What would’ve their life been like had they actually married that time? “I wish things were different, I wish they were so much.”
Theresa pulled her hand away. “I think they worked out the way they were supposed to.”
“What? How? You were convicted of killing Julian, you lost all you thought was dear, we aren’t together.”
“Sometimes things happen Ethan and we can’t explain it. This has all been a wake up call for me. I believe that I will be a stronger person because of it all. Sure, it isn’t fair, but it’s life.” She pulled him down to her and hugged him. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I thank god everyday for that precious time you. You will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Ethan squeezed his eyes shut in hopes of fighting off the tears. “Me too.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Wake up baby,” Theresa gently crooned her son as the cab stopped in front of a large mansion. She saw her son look at the building before them.
“Where are we?” Ethan Martin rubbed his eyes.
“We’re home baby.”
*This is my first Passions story, that I ever completed. I write a lot of fan fiction for other shows, but I hope to get some other ones out if I ever get to writing them. I would appreciate to read some of your feedback.*
